Disappearing Heroes

OVERVIEW:

In addition to being commemorative sculpture, equestrian monuments are institutional advertisements. The individual leaders that have been immortalized might not have accomplished all that is being projected. Other societies might have a very different view of these leaders.

PROPOSAL:

To temporarily encapsulate the equestrian figure in a lightweight fiberglass sphere, and surface the assembled sphere with asphalt and crushed cans. The equestrian figure would remain hidden underneath this urban mosaic for six months. The sphere would then be removed and the undamaged equestrian monument would reappear exactly as it was.
